Twilight rider

Watercolour

I painted this picture for Halloween, inspired by 18th century costumes, highway men like Dick Turpin, and the legend of Sleepy Hollow.

I wanted to make it simultaneously warm and cold, so I choose to use warmer brown tones rather than cold blue ones because I wanted to give it a feeling of autumn, and added mist on the ground and the horse’s breath is to show that it is still chilly in the air.
